Storm Variants: They will try to race and kill you very quickly. Pyrostatic Pillar makes it hard for the opposition to cast spells and fetch. That card is the last thing this deck wants to see. Krosan Grip is more an answer to Blood Moon than anything else. Luckily, they don't produce a fast clock, and other than UWR Delver, don't have much of an answer to a 20/20 flying indestructible creature. They will also try to counter your relevant spells which means they will probably counter your Expedition Map, Sylvan Scrying, and Crop Rotation. Pyroclasm is pretty weak here as it is only a sorcery speed kill spell for Stoneforge Mystic.ĭelver: Your opponents that play Delver will try to play a threat and protect it. That is as good as it gets against Deathblade and the like. Krosan Grip kills Batterskull without letting your opponent bounce it. One of the best things about this deck is that with Thespian's Stage your combo is almost uncounterable. MatchupsĮsperblade: You are the aggro deck in this matchup, which is a little odd. You can also try to play the long game, but against certain decks like Miracles, this is probably not a great plan. Most of the time your plan is to get out Marit Lage as quickly as possible and attack until your opponent dies. The deck has been around since Vampire Hexmage was printed and people played it quite frequently in Old Extended. The Depths/Stage will then notice that it has no ice counters, and Marit Lage will appear from backstage, er, the depths. You can also copy Depths with the Thespian's Stage and choose to keep the copy thanks to the new legend rule. By sacrificing the Hexmage targeting Depths, you can remove all the counters and get Marit Lage. The Grove plan is too expensive to be played in a deck with Dark Depths and Loam is much better with Wasteland to lock people out with.įor those who don't know, Legacy Depths decks are based around the interaction between either Vampire Hexmage or Thespian's Stage and Dark Depths. They also tend to play the Life from the Loam engine. Most Jund Depths lists have Punishing Fire and Grove of the Burnwillows as a machine gun of sorts. This deck is not a new thing, but this version is very different from most lists.
